Community Partners and Referral Pathways

Working together to create practical opportunities across Glasgow

Community partnership is central to the development of The Joinery Hub Glasgow. We are building relationships with charities, youth organisations, recovery services, housing associations, employability providers and other support agencies to create safe, structured referral pathways into practical woodworking and digital manufacturing training.

Our Partnership Approach

The Joinery Hub Glasgow is currently in its startup phase. We are developing pilot partnerships, referral pathways and supported programme models with organisations across Glasgow.

Our aim is to complement the excellent work already being carried out by community organisations by providing practical, hands-on learning opportunities within a fully equipped commercial joinery workshop.

Current Partnership Development

The organisations below are part of our current partnership development and early-stage discussions. The descriptions reflect the type of collaborative work being explored and should not be read as confirmation that funded placements are already operating.

DRC Youth Project

Focus: Youth Support, Confidence Building and Practical Learning

We are currently developing an initial pilot partnership with the DRC Youth Project to explore supported woodworking and digital manufacturing sessions for young people who would benefit from practical learning opportunities.

Our proposed delivery model centres around small supported groups, allowing participants to build confidence, establish routine and experience success through structured workshop activities alongside trusted support staff.

North West Recovery Community

Focus: Recovery, Wellbeing and Peer Support

We are exploring opportunities to work alongside North West Recovery Community to provide practical woodworking activities that encourage routine, confidence and purposeful engagement.

Future programme delivery will be developed jointly with the organisation to ensure appropriate support, safeguarding and participant wellbeing remain at the centre of every placement.

How the Referral Pathway Is Intended to Work

The following process outlines the referral pathway we are developing with community organisations. The exact process may vary depending on the needs of participants, funding arrangements and the referring organisation.

1. Initial Enquiry

A charity, support worker, housing association or referral organisation contacts us to discuss a potential participant or future cohort.

2. Referral Discussion

Together we discuss support requirements, accessibility, participant goals and any information required to help create a safe learning environment.

3. Workshop Visit

Where appropriate, participants are invited to visit our workshop, meet the team and become familiar with the equipment and learning environment before starting.

4. Placement Planning

Working together, we agree programme objectives, communication arrangements and appropriate levels of support before a placement begins.

5. Practical Learning

Participants begin their supported woodworking and digital manufacturing programme, working towards agreed learning and personal development outcomes.

Safeguarding, Privacy & Referral Information

We understand that referral discussions may involve sensitive personal, accessibility or safeguarding information. Initial enquiries should not include unnecessary medical, safeguarding or other confidential details.

Where sensitive information needs to be shared to support a safe and appropriate placement, The Joinery Hub Glasgow CIC will agree a suitable method with the referring organisation and handle information in line with our safeguarding and data protection procedures.

As programmes develop, we intend to work with referral partners to measure attendance, engagement, practical skills, confidence, teamwork and progression into further learning, volunteering or employment.

Outcome reporting may include attendance records, participant feedback, tutor observations, completed projects and end-of-programme reviews to demonstrate meaningful community impact.

What We Ask of Referral Partners

Successful placements rely on strong communication and collaboration. Depending on the programme, we may ask partner organisations to:

Provide relevant referral information and participant goals, while sharing only the personal information necessary to support the proposed placement.
Identify any support requirements, accessibility needs or reasonable adjustments before a placement begins.
Support communication with participants where appropriate.
Work with us to monitor attendance, wellbeing and progress.
Participate in programme reviews and future development.
